<\/p>\nVictoria has been in the Wilder Pageant for 6 years now.\u00a0 Every summer, she dresses up in an old fashioned dress, pinafore, braids and bonnet, and helps reenact life from the time when the Ingalls Family lived nearby.<\/p>\n
Until this year.<\/p>\n
This year, she is wearing an old fashioned dress, pinafore, braids and… this hat.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She wasn’t supposed to.\u00a0 Her dad brought it as a possible costume change since he plays two characters, and she seized it and wore it for fun during dress rehearsal.\u00a0 The director told her to go ahead and wear it, much to her delight.<\/p>\n
This came as a surprise to many of the other bonnet-clad girls, who repeatedly asked her if she was really going to wear that hat.\u00a0 She would tell them yes, sometimes they’d give her a look, and that would be the end of it.<\/p>\n
Except for one girl.\u00a0 This girl (whom I’ll call Pageant Girl) just could not get over the fact that Victoria was really, truly going to wear that hat in the Wilder Pageant.\u00a0 She asked Victoria about it repeatedly.<\/p>\n
The conversations went like this…<\/p>\n
Pageant girl:\u00a0 You’re not really gonna wear that hat, are you?<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 Yes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 But you can’t wear that hat!<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 But the director said I could.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n and later…<\/span> Pageant girl:\u00a0 You’re not really wearing that hat though, are you?<\/span><\/p>\n Then the next day, after the first performance, when Victoria did in fact wear the hat…<\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 Why are you wearing that hat?<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 Because the director told me to.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n and later…<\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 Why are you wearing that hat?<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 Because I want to.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n and later…<\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 Why are you wearing that hat?<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 Because it’s so awesome.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 But it’s not awesome!\u00a0 It’s weird!\u00a0 And it doesn’t look good on you!<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria says, “We were next to The Bench of Teenagers and they all stood up and said things like It’s okay<\/em> and It’s a cool hat<\/em> and Hey, she looks fine<\/em>.”<\/p>\n But still, later on…<\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 That hat looks so weird.<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 Thanks.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Pageant girl:\u00a0 I feel sorry for you, because there’s no way I’d wear that hat!<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria:\u00a0 (Jumping onto a bench)\u00a0 I feel sorry for you because you’re not daring enough to!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n I have grown to love that crazy hat — and my kid for wearing it.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria has been in the Wilder Pageant for 6 years now.\u00a0 Every summer, she dresses up in an old fashioned dress, pinafore, braids and bonnet, and helps reenact life from the time when the Ingalls Family lived nearby.
