{"id":834,"date":"2010-06-01T04:12:04","date_gmt":"2010-06-01T04:12:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=834"},"modified":"2010-06-01T04:12:04","modified_gmt":"2010-06-01T04:12:04","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-53","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/01\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-53\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Hello magical you!\u00a0 I hope those of you in the states had a wonderful Memorial Day. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sorry for being a day late in posting this week&#8217;s list.\u00a0 We had a little family vacation and I dawdled in getting back to things. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And in true slacker fashion, I&#8217;m swiping this list from one I sent out in the Magical Childhood newsletter on this day six years ago.\u00a0 It comes in handy to have yapped so much for so long.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#00cc00;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">1.\u00a0 Have a watermelon seed spitting contest.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#ff0080;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">2.\u00a0 Take a bus ride.\u00a0 Granted, this will seem about as magical to you as getting your teeth cleaned, but bus rides can be fantastic treats for little ones who are not used to taking them.\u00a0 See if you can take a bus to the library, park or just around a different part of town.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">3.\u00a0 Start a bug collection.\u00a0 Dead bugs only.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">4.\u00a0 Go through your tupperware collection and take the lids outside to see which ones make good frisbees.\u00a0 Our square ones fly surprisingly far!<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#00cc00;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">5.\u00a0 Play baseball, basketball or catch with water balloons.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">6.\u00a0 Bake a white sheet cake and decorate with clean paintbrushes and blueberry &amp; strawberry syrups.\u00a0 Paint a masterpiece together and then eat your art.\u00a0 To get even fancier, make a cake for each person and do edible portraits.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t forget to take pictures before you gobble them up!\u00a0 For other ways to decorate your art&#8211; use different color tubes of frosting or use sliced fruit or tiny candies to make mosaics.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#cc33cc;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">7.\u00a0 Make an obstacle course in the back yard.\u00a0 Good props include boards, rope, tires, tall cardboard boxes (open both ends to make tunnels), wading pools, hula hoops and sprinklers.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#3333ff;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">8.\u00a0 Go kite flying.\u00a0 You can buy kites for around a dollar at many stores or you can make your own.\u00a0 Instructions are plentiful online or at your library.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#ff0080;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">9.\u00a0 Start a family restaurant.\u00a0 Invite the kids to make up a menu of foods you agree on and have them decorate it.\u00a0 Make up a fun name, too.\u00a0 Once a week, &#8220;eat out&#8221; at home.\u00a0 This can be a good way to get rid of leftovers or to serve easy summer dinners.\u00a0 Just make up some combo plates listing fruits, salads, sandwiches, etc. that you have on hand or let them order ala carte.\u00a0 Kids can take turns being waiters and waitresses, or mom and dad can be the servers.\u00a0 If the kids take charge, don&#8217;t forget to tip!<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family:Tahoma;\"><span style=\"color:#8000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">10. Make a mess in the mud.\u00a0 Find some dirt, get it wet, and stomp, smush and play together in it.\u00a0 Wiggle your toes in it.\u00a0 Write your name in it.\u00a0 Stir it with sticks.\u00a0 Put it in pie tins.\u00a0 Get dirty.\u00a0 I guarantee it&#8217;ll be one of the best times you&#8217;ll have all week.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4018\/4658292379_200859daae.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><em>And with that, I&#8217;m off to glare at the laundry until it cooperates.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><em>Have a magical week!<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello magical you!\u00a0 I hope those of you in the states had a wonderful Memorial Day.
