1.  Teach your kids to do the hand jive. <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span> Here’s<\/a> instructions.  If you’re a visual learner here’s<\/a> a woman and young girl teaching it before a Disney show and here’s<\/a> a video of some good natured teenagers trying their best!  Try doing it to kids’ songs in the car or doing it as a group and see how long you can go before you mess up!<\/p>\n

2.  Have the kids pick dandelions and make a <\/span><\/span>dandelion recipe<\/span><\/a>!<\/span>  Are you brave enough to make fried dandelion flowers?  Dandelion jelly?  We’ve made dandelion greens and they were awfully bitter even though we tried to get them nice and early in the season when they were still relatively new.  If you try any of these, please let me know how they turn out!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span>  Be sure you only pick dandelions where you know they have not been sprayed with pesticides.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span>

3.  Go buy a loaf of cheap bread just for the ducks<\/span><\/span> and take the afternoon off to go feed them with your little one (or big one!).<\/p>\n

4.  Celebrate <\/span><\/span>Cinco de Mayo<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5.  Email your child a sweet or funny <\/span><\/span>e-card<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6.  Convert some wooden blocks into dinner dice.<\/span><\/span>  Have the kids paint them a light color and then write possible dinners on each side.  Have one be veggies and one main courses or make one for breakfast and one for snacks.  To make them easily changed, paint them with chalkboard paint.<\/span><\/p>\n

7.  Give your child a couple of screwdrivers and some old, broken objects to take apart and investigate.<\/span>  Kids love dismantling things and using tools and it’s pretty interesting peeking inside of that stuff!

8.  Find a local game to attend<\/span> — Little League, minor league or just some people playing volleyball in the park.  Have some snacks and cheer them on.<\/span><\/p>\n

9.  Teach the kids to play <\/span><\/span>kick-the-can<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span>10. Have a tea party.<\/span>  Serve tiny finger sandwiches (just cut them into little shapes), tea and cookies.  Dress up and don’t forget fancy hats!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
