WHAT I WOULD TELL HER: \u00a0(If I knew what to say.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are a miracle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And I have to love you this fiercely:\u00a0 So that you can feel it even after you leave for school, or even while you are asleep, or even after your childhood becomes a memory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll forget all this when you grow up.\u00a0 But it\u2019s okay.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being a mother means having your heart broken.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And it means loving and losing and falling apart and coming back together.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And it\u2019s the best there is.\u00a0 And also, sometimes, the worst.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes you won\u2019t have anyone to talk to.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes you\u2019ll wonder if you\u2019ve forgotten who you are.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But you must remember this:\u00a0 What you\u2019re doing matters<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And you have to be brave with your life so that others can be brave with theirs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The truth is, being a woman is a gift. \u00a0Tenderness is a gift. \u00a0Intimacy is a gift. \u00a0And nurturing the good in this world is a nothing short of a privilege.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s why I have to love you this way.\u00a0 So I can give what I have to you.\u00a0 So that you can carry it in your body and pass it on.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have watched you sleep.\u00a0 I\u2019ve kissed you a million times.\u00a0 And I know something that you don\u2019t, yet:<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are writing the story of your only<\/em> life every single minute of every day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And my greatest hope for you, sweet child, is that I can teach you how to write a good one.<\/strong><\/p>\n
