{"id":2710,"date":"2018-05-14T16:48:14","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T16:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=2710"},"modified":"2018-05-14T16:48:14","modified_gmt":"2018-05-14T16:48:14","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-141","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/14\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-141\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Happy Monday!\u00a0<\/strong> I can&#8217;t wait to get back to yapping with you all again (if anybody is still out there!).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sorry to be gone so long this time.\u00a0 Life has only gotten busier since I started Magical Childhood nearly 18 years ago in 2000 (and later this blog instead of the emailed newsletter, in 2009).\u00a0 Back then, I had a baby girl and a toddler, who are now both officially grown ups\u00a0 &#8212; Rhiannon (Annalee) is now 18 and Victoria is 20 years old!\u00a0 Luckily, I still have little ones too.\u00a0 Fiona is now 6, Alex just turned 11 and Jack just turned 15.\u00a0 My hands are full but my heart is happy, and I love having all different ages of kiddos to play with now.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll start updating you all with some of the happenings here in our family, but in the meantime how about an old fashioned list of ways to make the day magical?<\/p>\n<h2>Here are 10 ways to make some magic this week!<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0 Make mud art!\u00a0 <\/strong>Find a good place to dig in the dirt and provide some water, spoons, platters and pretties to decorate with (dried flower petals, dried beans, dragon tears, beads, etc.).\u00a0 Let the kids mix up mud and make whatever designs they like and leave them to dry.\u00a0 Take pictures and then just rinse and reuse the special stuff later.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-2716 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/05\/mud-art.jpg\" alt=\"mud art\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mud-art.jpg 375w, http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mud-art-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Drape some blankets over a clothesline, tree, tent poles or other props in the back yard and make some impromptu forts.\u00a0 <\/strong>Stock the insides with some fun books, games, snacks, a flashlight, whatever, and see what fun the kids dream up to have in their new fun space.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1994 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/pirate.jpg\" alt=\"pirate\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 <strong>Use clean sand castle molds to an make ice cream castle.\u00a0 <\/strong>Decorate wildly and eat!<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0 Teach the kids how to play marbles.<\/strong>\u00a0 This is such a simple way to have fun at any age.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.persil.com\/uk\/dirt-is-good\/games\/teach-your-older-kids-how-to-collect-and-play-marbles.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here are the instructions<\/a> if you&#8217;ve forgotten (or never learned!).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-2714 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/05\/marbles.jpg\" alt=\"marbles\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/marbles.jpg 640w, http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/marbles-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0<\/strong> <strong>Put birthday candles in each child\u2019s dinner tonight.\u00a0<\/strong> It doesn\u2019t matter if dinner is sandwiches and it\u2019s 9 months from their birthdays, kids just love blowing out candles and feeling special. Relight them and do it again and again!<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>Make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pedagonet.com\/videos\/paperboat.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paper boats<\/a> and sail them in puddles or the kiddie pool.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Have a family &#8220;3&#8221; challenge.<\/strong> See if each of you can do three sweet things today for each other family member today.\u00a0 They can be tiny little things, just something to show you love them, things that you know will make them happy.\u00a0 Make your teenager&#8217;s favorite dish for supper.\u00a0 Leave the dishes and go read a story to your toddler.\u00a0 Give extra monkey hugs (in our family, we dip kids upside down and holler \u201cmonkey hug!\u201d and swing them back up again and again), and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Have a magical week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Monday!\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to get back to yapping with you all again (if anybody is still out there!).
