{"id":2454,"date":"2015-06-04T17:01:59","date_gmt":"2015-06-04T17:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=2454"},"modified":"2015-06-04T17:01:59","modified_gmt":"2015-06-04T17:01:59","slug":"garden-potions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2015\/06\/04\/garden-potions\/","title":{"rendered":"Garden Potions!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/potions.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2455\" src=\"https:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/potions.jpg?w=660\" alt=\"potions\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/potions.jpg 960w, http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/potions-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/potions-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s a sweet way to make a little magic in the back yard this summer.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">My Alex had been having fun making &#8220;potions&#8221; with rain water, grass clippings and such, and he asked me to help him find new ingredients.\u00a0 I decided to make it a little extra magical and went and got a pitcher of tap water and a can from the recycling.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color:#000000;\"> I secretly dropped a few drops of green food coloring in the bottom of the can,<\/span> and then made a show of filling the &#8220;empty&#8221; can with some grass clippings from the yard.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I gave him the pitcher and told him that I&#8217;d put magic grass in the can.\u00a0 Then I had him pour some water into the can and pour the can into a bucket.\u00a0 Of course, the water in the can instantly turned bright green when it mixed with the food coloring at the bottom, and Alex and Fiona watched in amazement as the magically green water poured into the bucket.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\"><strong>I also asked the kids to find <span style=\"color:#000000;\">8 yellow dandelions<\/span> for a second can (that I&#8217;d already secretly sprinkled with some yellow food coloring), and we used <span style=\"color:#000000;\">spent lilac blossoms<\/span> for a third can that had some blue.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>I also gave them a jar of fairy dust (Florida sand from a vacation) to sprinkle in.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Lastly, I had them gather dandelion puffs so they could blow wishes into their concoctions.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I gave them lots of buckets to pour into, so they could also have fun with color mixing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Alex is old enough that he easily figured the secret out, but he had fun pretending anyway.\u00a0 Little Fiona just had fun gathering the ingredients and pouring and pouring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">They happily played for an hour with their potions.\u00a0 It was an easy, nearly free, absolutely magical way to have some back yard fun.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll definitely be doing more of it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I also picked up an old spice rack with little glass bottles at a thrift store, and I&#8217;m going to assemble a whole magic potion rack for them to use sometime soon in their outdoor play kitchen.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll try to post pictures and update how that goes!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a sweet way to make a little magic in the back yard this summer.
