{"id":2419,"date":"2014-09-08T16:40:41","date_gmt":"2014-09-08T16:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=2419"},"modified":"2014-09-08T16:40:41","modified_gmt":"2014-09-08T16:40:41","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-138","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/08\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-138\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#333399;\"><em><strong>Happy Monday!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333399;\"><em>I hope things are good in your little corner of the world.\u00a0 Things are pretty good in ours.\u00a0 I have all of my chicks back in the nest, which makes for a crowded but happy nest in my book.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333399;\"><em>This summer, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder related to my blood (Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hughes-syndrome.org\/about-hughes-syndrome\/what-is-it.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hughes Syndrome<\/a>) and also with a seizure disorder.\u00a0 My neurologist has prescribed anti-seizure medication but it&#8217;s a pretty serious medication and I&#8217;m generally a natural kind of girl.\u00a0 If anybody has experience with natural treatments to help manage seizures, please leave me a note!\u00a0 These are not the type of seizures that make me lose consciousness or anything like that, just frequent &#8220;sharp waves&#8221; and &#8220;lightning strikes&#8221; throughout the day that make life a little more challenging (as if having five kids doesn&#8217;t do enough of that already!).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333399;\"><em><strong>My husband read once that September is the month of winds and magic.\u00a0<\/strong> This certainly is a magical time of the year.\u00a0 Here are a few ways to make some memories with the kiddos this week&#8230;.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>1.\u00a0 Stop at a park you pass and explore it together.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"August 8 by alicia_bayer, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/26078844@N06\/14667989647\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3870\/14667989647_d356d871af_z.jpg\" alt=\"August 8\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">We passed this tiny park about an hour from our home and we got a kick out of the quote by Ole Synsteby about how busy folks are &#8220;these days&#8221; with their motor cars and such.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"August 8 by alicia_bayer, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/26078844@N06\/14851458591\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3917\/14851458591_c3f49ae1b9_z.jpg\" alt=\"August 8\" width=\"640\" height=\"531\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800080;\"><strong>2.\u00a0 Teach the kids some magic tricks.<\/strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kidzone.ws\/magic\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here&#8217;s<\/a> one site that has some simple ones for kids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 Go feed some ducks, pigeons or seagulls.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2657\/3938675844_e470e9101e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>4.\u00a0 Tell the kids that they can\u2019t use their hands for dessert tonight.\u00a0 <\/strong>Take pictures!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#99cc00;\"><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>5.\u00a0 Do some playing in history.\u00a0<\/strong> Make cardboard viking shields, have a Little House on the Prairie day, eat like the Colonial Days, make LEGO pyramids or otherwise delve into history through play.\u00a0 You can peek at my <a style=\"color:#993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/magicandmayhem\/playing-in-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Playing in History board<\/a> on Pinterest for inspiration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/736x\/93\/f6\/c8\/93f6c84a5b770137c55a98cf61059f48.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong>6.\u00a0 Watch movies with the kids of when they were little or snuggle up on the couch and look through old photo albums.\u00a0 <\/strong>Tell stories and be sappy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#b33eb3;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 Throw a family cocktail party.\u00a0 <\/strong>Make up some little appetizers and arrange some party platters with tasty favorite foods that you usually reserve for parties.\u00a0 Put out some fun and fancy looking drinks and fancy glasses (or plastic partyware).\u00a0 Even orange juice turns fancy in a special glass with a sugared rim!\u00a0 Tell everybody to dress up, put on some background music and mingle!<\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>8.\u00a0<\/strong> <strong>Find a really old cookbook and make a meal fit for an old fashioned family.\u00a0 <\/strong>Some of the intriguing recipes we\u2019ve found include Porridge, Lone Ranger Sandwiches, Creamed Chicken in Potato Nests and Jumbo Prunes with Cream.\u00a0 Some sound more tempting than others!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4090\/4981189441_07e36d7d94.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><strong>9.\u00a0<\/strong> <strong>Do balloon chores!\u00a0<\/strong> Write simple jobs on small pieces of paper and slip them into balloons.\u00a0 Blow up the balloons and let the kids each pick one to pop.\u00a0 They do whichever job is inside.\u00a0 When their job is finished, they get to pop another balloon and do the next one.\u00a0 Fill a few of them with jokes or other fun freebies, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#b33eb3;\"><strong>10. Have a Ten Good Deeds Day.\u00a0 <\/strong>Each family member picks 10 things to do for others (strangers or loved ones) and writes them down.\u00a0 When the last one is done, everybody celebrates with a little group reward.\u00a0 Try to log the good deeds in a special place so you can look back on them later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>And with that, I&#8217;m off to feed my hungry masses and wrestle the kitchen into shape.\u00a0 Have a magical week!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Monday!
