{"id":2395,"date":"2014-05-18T21:21:47","date_gmt":"2014-05-18T21:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=2395"},"modified":"2014-05-18T21:21:47","modified_gmt":"2014-05-18T21:21:47","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-135","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/18\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-135\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Happy Sunday!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sorry to have been gone for so long.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been doing a little of this&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7330\/13896490198_a123c21e0a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>And a little of this (three kids with birthdays in one week!)&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net\/hphotos-prn2\/t1.0-9\/p180x540\/10171113_10152429762074274_4139829643316731168_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>(That&#8217;s not actually our cake at all, just a picture that a friend posted on my wall for my lego-loving boy!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And a little of this&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/t1.0-9\/10274270_648136011940925_9160251293373486901_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"417\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>It turns out that I am severely anemic and need to have weekly IV iron treatments for a month to try to get my levels up to par.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tomorrow is dose number two (please let the veins be easier this time!) so I figured I&#8217;d get this week&#8217;s list out early.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And I am totally cheating by lifting today&#8217;s list from May 2011!\u00a0 There are benefits to having yapped at you all for so long now!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>So without further ado, here&#8217;s a few ways to sneak in a little magic with our kiddos this week&#8230;&#8230;.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\">1.\u00a0 Make poetry shells.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong>Gather up a bunch of <\/span><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">pistachio shells, <\/span><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">smooth rocks\u00a0 or other natural objects and use a magic marker to write words on them.\u00a0 Make sure to use adjectives, nouns and verbs.\u00a0 For example\u2026. I, you, we, love, wet, dogs, jumped, lick, stars\u2026. the more words you make the more variety you can get in your poem.\u00a0 Drop the rocks in a bucket, shake, and grab a handful to arrange into each line.\u00a0 Make sure to add some funny words!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/poetryshells7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2396\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/poetryshells7.jpg\" alt=\"Make poetry shells\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/poetryshells7.jpg 500w, http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/poetryshells7-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">2.\u00a0 Help the kids hide love-you notes for a loved one<\/span><\/strong> (daddy, grandma, etc.).\u00a0 Fill them with messages to make the recipient laugh or feel good, such as limericks, 5 reasons you\u2019re the best grandpa, and so on.\u00a0 Try to leave some where it will take a few days and some that will pop up in dull places, such as in the car or briefcase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 Take the whole family out for a starry drive.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Park by a lake or just in an empty lot away from city lights.\u00a0 Lay a blanket down or pull out some lawn chairs and just sit as a family and watch the stars.\u00a0 See if you can see any shooting stars.\u00a0 Point out the constellations to your kids.\u00a0 Talk about what you thought when you looked at the stars when you were a child.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.morguefile.com\/imageData\/public\/files\/e\/earl53\/08\/l\/1377050312t10gg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"305\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ad2ed1;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\">4. Make puzzles for breakfast.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong>Use cookie cutters to cut shapes out of toast, pancakes or french toast.\u00a0 Let kids match the shapes to the pieces with the holes and fit back in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">5.\u00a0 Have the kids make up funny fortunes<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:#993300;\"> and put them in homemade fortune cookies or leave them in unexpected places like cereal boxes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3378\/4625555485_21c2cd759e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#333399;\">6.\u00a0 Go down memory lane.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong><span style=\"color:#339966;\">Take the kids to the hospital where they were born, the school you went to, or the park where daddy proposed.\u00a0 Tell them the stories of those far-off times.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 Start a wish tradition.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color:#993300;\">My mom always saved the tip of her pie for the last bite and made a wish on it.\u00a0 Victoria always does this in honor of her grandma, even though they never met.\u00a0 You can also wish on stars, dandelion fluff, pennies in fountains, or just something you make up.\u00a0 See if your family can invent some neat new ones.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.morguefile.com\/imageData\/public\/files\/m\/maxstraeten\/preview\/fldr_2012_08_01\/file4981343831437.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"457\" height=\"343\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#339966;\">8.\u00a0 Dress the kids up with some whimsy<\/span> <\/strong>(with painted faces, wearing fairy wings, in ball gowns, etc.) and go someplace fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1284\/4658981270_ee11ce7aee.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><strong>9.\u00a0 Dance in the rain.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4025\/4625552333_ffa8153fcb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">10. Celebrate an unexpected anniversary.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong>Search through baby books, letters or old e-mails and find something neat that happened on this date.\u00a0 Surprise your little one with a cake to celebrate the 4 year anniversary of her first word.\u00a0 Start writing notes on your calendars of all the milestones your family goes through, then keep them on a master calendar.\u00a0 How fun it would be in a few years to be able to look at this date in your family\u2019s history and see that 6 years ago you moved into your house, 3 years ago the baby crawled for the first time, and last year this was the day your son cooked his first meal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>And with that, my dears, I&#8217;m off to do the oh-so-magical task of more laundry!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Have a wonderful week.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Sunday!
