She wrote:<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:rgb(255,102,0);\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">I know there are a lot of other books out there on ADHD but this book, <u>Understanding&nbsp;Girls with ADHD<\/u>&nbsp;is groundbreaking.&nbsp; The book&#8217;s author deals specifically with girls who present symptoms much different than boys withADhD.&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><span style=\"color:rgb(128,0,0);\"><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large;\"><span style=\"color:rgb(128,0,0);\"><strong>I Wish My Mother Had Known <\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:rgb(128,0,0);\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color:rgb(128,0,0);\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">by Mary H.<\/p>\n<p> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that I was&nbsp;actually very smart.<br \/> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that I needed more attention.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my&nbsp;mother had known <br \/> that I went to school every day as a&nbsp;little girl, <br \/> in fear and dread<br \/> at the&nbsp;prospect of being shamed<br \/> and&nbsp;humiliated in class.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that my low self-esteem and <br \/> lack of physical affection at home<br \/> would lead to rampant promiscuity.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known <br \/> that someday I would have to <br \/> compete in the world,<br \/> and that being&nbsp;married <br \/> was not going to make me safe.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known how desperately <br \/> I needed stimulation and attainable challenges.<br \/> (Expectations for me were very low, <br \/> so even I was surprised when I realized<br \/> that I love a challenge!)<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known <br \/> that my&nbsp;artistic and creative skills<br \/> were important,&nbsp;<br \/> and could have sustained me,<br \/> had I been encouraged to develop them.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known <br \/> that I could not organize my room.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that I had a huge curiosity about life,<br \/> but that I could not absorb it <br \/> in&nbsp;the context of&nbsp;public school.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my&nbsp;mother had known <br \/> that I was too sensitive and shy and embarrassed <br \/> to have my needs met.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that I could not&nbsp;easily either fall asleep or wake up,<br \/> and that I had no control over&nbsp;that.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known that being put<br \/> into the dumb classes,<br \/> in&nbsp;spite of my consistently high IQ tests,<br \/> was humiliating,<br \/> and caused me to not even bother to try.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that having only one friend <br \/> was not normal and might have signaled other problems.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my mother had known<br \/> that&nbsp;leaving the house unzipped, buttoned wrong, <br \/> or without my lunch or books, was a signal.<br \/> &nbsp;<br \/> I wish my&nbsp;mother had known<br \/> what we know now.<br \/> She didn&#8217;t.&nbsp; She did her best,<br \/> and I hope&nbsp;that she knows<br \/> how very much I love her.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><span style=\"color:rgb(128,0,0);\"><strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(255,102,0);\"><br \/>What a touching poem!&nbsp;
