Happy Monday!\u00a0<\/strong> I’m popping in from the midst of our chaos to jot off a quick list of ways to make some memories this week, and to once more give myself a nudge to start posting more often.\u00a0 After a dozen or so years of doing this I tend to get a bit lazy at times!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In any case, I hope you’re having a magical December so far.\u00a0 Here’s a few ways to add a little magic with the kiddos…….<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 No snow where you live?\u00a0<\/strong> Head to the beach and make an adorable sandman instead.\u00a0 I love this lovely pic from Zontini Studios<\/span><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Make some homemade gifts together.\u00a0<\/strong> You can try your hands at some DIY beeswax modeling clay<\/span><\/a> or a felt board busy box<\/span><\/a> (with a baby wipes container as a base!) or homemade watercolor paints<\/span><\/a> or some wonderful edible treats.\u00a0 Check out my homemade toys board<\/span><\/a> or my handmade gifts board<\/span><\/a> on Pinterest for some of my favorite ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Cut up a zillion paper snowflakes and decorate the house.\u00a0<\/strong> Paint them with watercolors to make them extra special.\u00a0 Coffee filters make it even easier.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Give each child a small amount of money and go shopping for the food shelf.\u00a0<\/strong> Let them choose what they buy, reminding them to look for stuff they\u2019d want to eat but also that they can get a lot more by buying inexpensive items and they should aim for healthy too.\u00a0 Go together to the food shelf or drop off spot.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Turn a box into some sort of awesome hideout.<\/strong>\u00a0 You can make a bear den<\/span><\/a> or a cave or any number of other sweet little cubbies.\u00a0 Add a reading light and a pillow, and it becomes a fantastic place to bring a pile of books!<\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Make real sugarplums.<\/strong>\u00a0 These are so much fun and healthy too!\u00a0 Just fruit with a bit of orange juice pulsed together, then rolled in sugar, coconut flakes or something similar.\u00a0 Here are<\/span> the instructions<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Start a nightly read-aloud.\u00a0<\/strong> This time of year, we always gather and read “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” as a family over the space of a few nights.\u00a0 Make some time to read aloud besides just at bedtime, particularly from books that suit all ages.<\/span><\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 If you get some snow, try snow dyeing<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0 Isn’t this the most beautiful effect?!<\/span><\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 Try making some LEGO holiday creations.\u00a0<\/strong> Here’s<\/span><\/a> some ideas and help finding patterns.<\/span><\/p>\n

10.<\/strong> String cranberries, popcorn and other edible goodies on trees outside for the birds and squirrels.<\/strong>\u00a0 Be sure to put them near a window where you all can watch them being enjoyed!<\/span><\/p>\n
