{"id":2181,"date":"2013-03-25T17:23:26","date_gmt":"2013-03-25T17:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=2181"},"modified":"2013-03-25T17:23:26","modified_gmt":"2013-03-25T17:23:26","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-123","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/25\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-123\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><em><strong>Happy Monday!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><em>I hope all is wonderful in your little corner of the world.\u00a0 Winter is holding on tight around here but we&#8217;re planting seeds and making plans anyway.\u00a0 My <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/magicandmayhem\/spring-fun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">spring fun<\/span><\/a> Pinterest board is stocked with ideas I want to try with the kiddos.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><em><strong>Here&#8217;s a few ways to make a little magic this week&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>1.\u00a0 Tie long sticks to ribbons<\/strong> and go <strong>ribbon dancing<\/strong> in the back yard or park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#808000;\"><strong>2.\u00a0 Make grapevine wreaths and bracelets.\u00a0<\/strong> Click <a href=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/23\/making-grapevine-wreaths-and-crowns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#808000;\">here<\/span><\/a> for a tutorial from my Victoria a few years back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/grapevine2.jpg?w=500\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 Mop the kitchen floor by letting the kids sock skate.<\/strong>\u00a0 Or take it a step farther like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/Sponge-Skating-Get-your-kids-to-clean-the-floor-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">this family<\/span><\/a> did and make some <strong>sponge skates<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you go for the mop hockey idea (which is brilliant, if you have a large enough floor and the bravery to say yes to such a thing!), I\u2019d definitely recommend helmets though.<\/span>\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/s0.wp.com\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/icon_smile.gif?m=1129645325g\" alt=\":)\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong>4.\u00a0 Cheer up your bill-paying.\u00a0 <\/strong>Have the kids use crayons or colored pencils to draw a picture on the back of each bill as you mail it in, plus decorate the envelope and write something cheerful.\u00a0 You might make someone else\u2019s day magical as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong>5.\u00a0 Make some seed bombs.\u00a0<\/strong> You can make these little guerilla gardening goodies with shredded paper or clay, plus a bit of dirt, compost and wildflower seeds.\u00a0 Then have fun flinging them into unloved areas that could use a bit of color (including your own back yard!).\u00a0 Be sure to use native wildflowers that will not be invasive and follow all those commonsense sort of rules.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Find tutorials at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everynothingwonderful.com\/2010\/11\/homemade-holidays-seed-bombs-with-label.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\">every(nothing)wonderful<\/span><\/a> (with free printable labels!), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theecologist.org\/green_green_living\/gardening\/867935\/what_is_a_seedbomb.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\">The Ecologist<\/span><\/a> (where you can learn the very old history of seed bombs and lots more), <a href=\"http:\/\/mademoisellechaos.blogspot.co.uk\/2010\/03\/make-your-own-seed-bombs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\">Mademoiselle Chaos<\/span><\/a> (where you can make moldable little seed bomb shapes with recycled paper), or use this basic formula from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/holidays\/gift-ideas\/diy-stocking-stuffers#slide-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\">BH&amp;G<\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.guerrillagardening.org\/\" target=\"blank_\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\">Guerillagardening.org<\/span><\/a> recipe: Combine two parts mixed flower seeds with three parts compost; stir in five parts powdered clay (available at art or crafts supply stores), and moisten with water. Form balls one inch in diameter; let dry for 24 to 48 hours (stash in an empty egg carton). Gather in paper and tie with raffia; add easy how-tos on a tag.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.intimateweddings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/diy-seed-bombs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"575\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>6.\u00a0 Got any Harry Potter fans?\u00a0<\/strong> Make their day with homemade <a href=\"http:\/\/heatherbailey.typepad.com\/heather_bailey\/2009\/07\/butterbeer_recipe.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">Butterbeer<\/span><\/a>, complete with sugared rims on the glasses.\u00a0 Now if I could only figure out how to make those tiny brooms\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800080;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 Start a weekly project of making homemade toys together.\u00a0<\/strong> These can be simple (like turning unwanted stuffed animals into puppets) or sophisticated (like making homemade dolls).\u00a0 Check out my <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/magicandmayhem\/homemade-toys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homemade Toys <\/a>board for lots of tutorials and inspiration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img1.liveinternet.ru\/images\/attach\/c\/1\/\/58\/756\/58756335_853.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#008000;\">8.\u00a0 Start some seeds.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:#008000;\"> You can start them in egg shells, egg cartons, newspaper pots, muffin tins or toilet paper tubes (cut in half) in recycled plastic boxes (the clamshell boxes from organic salad mixes are perfect) for mini-greenhouses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><strong>9.\u00a0 Do electric griddle drawings.<\/strong>\u00a0 These are so much fun that even I have to take a few minutes to make some melty crayon art.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Click <a href=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/11\/electric-griddle-drawings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">here<\/span><\/a> for our tutorial and be sure to be safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/griddle.jpg?w=500&amp;h=500\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>10.
