{"id":1663,"date":"2011-09-07T21:28:47","date_gmt":"2011-09-07T21:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=1663"},"modified":"2011-09-07T21:28:47","modified_gmt":"2011-09-07T21:28:47","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-104","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/07\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-104\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color:#333399;\"><strong>Happy Wednesday!<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#333399;\">We had a wonderful time in Iowa and Southeast Minnesota.\u00a0 The kids got to explore caves (Victoria is hooked, the others liked some of them but found some of them scary, and I found out that Niagara Cave is a really bad idea at 8 months pregnant!), we judged salsa and tasted heirloom tomatoes and made ketchup at Seed Savers, we visited goat farms and much more.\u00a0 It&#8217;s still great to be home though.\u00a0 I tire out easily these days!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#333399;\">Enough of my yapping!\u00a0 Better late than never &#8212;\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a few ways to make some magic with your kiddos this week&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800080;\"><strong>1.\u00a0 Go to another town and on the way make up totally different identities for yourselves.\u00a0 All day, call yourselves by your fake names and play along with your alternate life.\u00a0 Encourage the kids to really get creative for eavesdroppers. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong>2.\u00a0 Get some teacups, railings and glue or caulk and make up some teacup bird feeders like Rockie did at <a href=\"http:\/\/rockiescrafts.blogspot.com\/2010\/08\/tea-cup-bird-feeder.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\">Something Wonderful<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 If you like, have the kids mix and match patterns or paint the outsides of the teacups with a whimsical pattern to personalize them.\u00a0 Then see who visits!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/p1150299b.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"241\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 Take apart a bunch of old jewelry and try to make a new artistic creation together. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>4. Make magnetic googly eyes and decorate metallic surfaces in your house with them.\u00a0 I love this idea from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playcreateexplore.com\/2011\/07\/magnetic-googly-eyes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Play Create Explore<\/span><\/a>!!!!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Just be careful with very little children and choking hazards, naturally.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/img_3123.jpg?w=224\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"400\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/img_3117.jpg?w=224\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"400\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#339966;\"><strong>5.\u00a0 Make up a journal prompt jar and give your child a blank book to use.\u00a0 Fill the jar with hand written prompts to journal about or print out <a href=\"http:\/\/christmas.organizedhome.com\/gifts-crafts-gift-tags\/gifts-in-a-jar\/childs-journal-jar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#339966;\">these<\/span><\/a> free ones from Organized Christmas.\u00a0 If you like, make it into a &#8220;Mom and me&#8221; (or &#8220;Dad and me&#8221; or &#8220;Grandma and me&#8221;&#8230;) and have the book be a joint project where you each write your answers for each question.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>6.\u00a0 Build something out of supper!\u00a0 Create a landscape, for instance, with a big mountain of mashed potatoes surrounded by broccoli forests and a log cabin fish stick house.\u00a0 Let kids cut your creation like a cake and eat their favorite parts. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 Tape red streamers to a hallway wall and make a laser area for kids to try to crawl through (without touching and setting off alarms!) like spies or jewel thieves.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/chickenbabies.blogspot.com\/2010\/11\/super-spy-training-birthday-party.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Chicken Babies<\/span><\/a> has instructions (plus tons more fun spy party ideas!).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/img_1136.jpg?w=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>8.\u00a0 Write and mail letters to yourselves. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#99cc00;\"><strong>9. \u00a0Have dinner with all conversations in pig latin, in rhyme, in song or in the form of questions!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><strong>10.\u00a0 Take your child someplace beautiful.\u00a0 Is there a hill outside of the city where you can park and watch the lights below?\u00a0 A Japanese garden with peaceful spots to relax?\u00a0 Find someplace beautiful and just sit and talk.\u00a0 Bring a treat like a bag of fresh chocolate chip cookies or old fashioned root beer in bottles, and just unwind together.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#333399;\">And with that, my dears, I&#8217;m off to help make garden catalog mailing envelopes and pretend I know what I&#8217;m making for supper.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#333399;\">Kiss your babies, count your blessings, and don&#8217;t forget to take care of you!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Wednesday!
