{"id":1657,"date":"2011-08-31T22:36:01","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T22:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=1657"},"modified":"2011-08-31T22:36:01","modified_gmt":"2011-08-31T22:36:01","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-103","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/31\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-103\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2474\/3936456358_a625eca606.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><em><strong>Happy Wednesday!\u00a0 We need magical ideas on more days besides Mondays, right?\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09\u00a0 That&#8217;s my excuse for being a bit of a slug and being so late this week!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><em><strong>Here&#8217;s a few ways to make some magic with your kiddos this week&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><strong>1.\u00a0Let the kids pick out several yards of clearance fabric in glamorous, funky and fun patterns.\u00a0 Help them make their own scarves, doll clothes, dress up clothes, throw pillows and more.\u00a0 Iron on fusible tape instead of sewing seams, if you like (you do this part for younger kids, obviously).\u00a0 If you&#8217;re short on money, let them use old clothes or sheets instead and decorate with permanent markers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong>2. Heat up a plate in the microwave and show your child how to draw on it with crayons.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve done this on paper on a griddle before but I never thought of just heating the plate in the microwave.\u00a0 Brilliant!\u00a0 Head to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playcreateexplore.com\/2011\/01\/crayon-melting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Play Create Explore<\/a> for the fun directions.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/08\/img_0249.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 Eat supper with all sorts of weird props&#8211; eat off lids and frisbees, use ladles and tongs to eat with, serve soup from a tea pot, drink from clean ketchup containers&#8230;\u00a0 Get creative!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>4.\u00a0 Clear out a back closet or other out of the way place to become a secret hideaway for each child.\u00a0 Stock them with flashlights and let them decorate as they wish.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>5.\u00a0 Leave squirrel treats.\u00a0 Gather up some fallen nuts or splurge on some bulk peanuts and leave little platters of them for the squirrels.\u00a0 Hide someplace and watch them come to spirit them away.\u00a0 Want to make it really fun?\u00a0 Make them work for it!\u00a0 Squirrels are brilliant at getting to even the trickiest of treats.\u00a0 Some families have even rigged up obstacle courses for their furry visitors.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>6.\u00a0 Harvest acorns and roast them<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a lot of work but our family loves this early fall tradition.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/green-culture-in-mankato\/how-to-make-acorn-flour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here&#8217;s<\/a> how we do it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 Start a family poem.\u00a0 Put up a large piece of paper on a door and put a pen nearby.\u00a0 Ask every family member to add a word every time he or she passes.\u00a0 It can be silly or serious.\u00a0 Save the finished poems in an album or scrapbook.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>8.\u00a0 Make mud pies together.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong>9.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Set up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toadhaven.com\/Mall%20Logic%20Scavenger%20Hunt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mall logic scavenger hunt<\/a>. <\/strong> I love this fabulous idea from Toad Haven!\u00a0 I\u2019m afraid our version would not be nearly as elaborate but I\u2019m so inspired and tickled at the idea.\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/s0.wp.com\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/icon_smile.gif?m=1308177906g\" alt=\":)\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\">10.\u00a0 Drape some blankets over a clothesline, tree, tent poles or other props in the back yard and make some impromptu forts.\u00a0 Stock the insides with some fun books, games, snacks, a flashlight, whatever, and see what fun the kids dream up to have in their new fun space.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4058\/4694990242_3f7681b205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">We&#8217;re off to Iowa tomorrow to spend a few days exploring caves, checking out some little towns and taking part in some nifty activities at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsavers.org\/Content.aspx?src=calendar_of_events.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seed Savers farm<\/a> (there&#8217;s a rotten tomato toss and ketchup making for the kids, a salsa contest and tomato tasting and all sorts of fun!).\u00a0 It should be a neat little trip. <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">(Are we weird that a tomato festival and cave explorations sound like fun to us?\u00a0 You probably shouldn&#8217;t answer that!)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Have a wonderful week!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Wednesday!\u00a0 We need magical ideas on more days besides Mondays, right?\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09\u00a0 That&#8217;s my excuse for being a bit of a slug and being so late this week!
