Happy Independence Day!\u00a0 Or Happy Monday to those of you who aren’t in the states.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Here’s a few ways to make some fun memories this week…<\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Use some tarps and a fan to make a walk-in bubble.\u00a0 Toad Haven<\/span><\/a> shows you how.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Make red, white and blue play dough.\u00a0 For extra fun, add glitter.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Play in the dirt!\u00a0 If you want some inspiration, hands on: as we grow<\/span><\/a> has 30 fun things to do with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Paint masterpieces on your toenails.\u00a0 Boys too!<\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Find out what your ninja names<\/span><\/a> are.<\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Write a family letter to someone who could use cheering up.\u00a0 Make sure everybody writes at least a paragraph or contributes a picture.<\/span><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Do the 30 Day Photography Challenge<\/span><\/a> together or make up your own.<\/span><\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Find an old ugly piece of furniture and paint it together (or pick one for each child).\u00a0 Encourage the kids to be as creative as possible.\u00a0 Add symbols, poetry, anything you want!\u00a0 Have them date and sign them.<\/span><\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 Go to the beach and find “bones” to play archeologists.\u00a0 You can find sticks, fish bones, driftwood or even crab claws.\u00a0 You can boil them at home in some water with a splash of bleach to disinfect them.\u00a0 Then help the kids build a creature by putting all the parts together!\u00a0 You may need to be creative with holding it all together, like wiring parts on while the glue dries or winding twine or electrical tape around parts to hold them together.\u00a0 Let your child name his newfound creature and make up a whole lifestyle for it!\u00a0 What did it eat?\u00a0 How old did it get?\u00a0 Were its babies hatched out of eggs or born?\u00a0 What animals preyed on it?\u00a0 Where did it live?\u00a0 Compare it to other animals as you go, and you’ll sneak in lots of learning.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p>\n

10. Make some stuffed monsters.\u00a0 Just freehand draw a simple monster shape on unwanted fabric (stained t-shirts and sheets are great!) and stuff with batting from old pillows or purchased fluff.\u00a0 You can hand sew them shut or use the machine.\u00a0 Here’s one Victoria made up…<\/span><\/p>\n

And with that, I’m off to make colorful playdough and bake some clay mushrooms that the kids made last night.\u00a0\u00a0 And okay, clean a little too.\u00a0 No rest for the wicked!\u00a0 Or the messy.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p>\n
