{"id":1489,"date":"2011-04-25T10:31:40","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T10:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=1489"},"modified":"2011-04-25T10:31:40","modified_gmt":"2011-04-25T10:31:40","slug":"10-ways-to-make-today-magical-90","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/25\/10-ways-to-make-today-magical-90\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4043\/4675955531_528e8aa3f2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Happy Monday!<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>I hope you had a wonderful Easter (for those who celebrate).\u00a0 Easter is a tricky holiday for me because it has always been one of my favorite holidays with my children but my mother died on Easter Sunday.\u00a0 That has gotten easier with time, and now it&#8217;s a day filled with happy family moments and just a little sadness and introspection.\u00a0 Mostly, I think about the last email my mother sent me, which was about her own happy Easter memories.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a good reminder to cherish the time we have with loved ones.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>The pregnancy is still going well.\u00a0 I am somewhere around 16 weeks along (the dates vary by a couple of weeks, depending on how we calculate it) and the morning sickness is getting a little less intense.\u00a0 It&#8217;s still pretty rough though, and it makes me really appreciate my husband and kids.\u00a0 They are a great support team!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>We have three kids&#8217; birthdays in the next week!\u00a0 Jack will turn 8 on April 30, then the next day Victoria will turn 13 on May Day.\u00a0 We have one day off and then Alex turns 4 on May 3. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>I have a lot of cakes to bake!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>Thank goodness this next baby will be born in September.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>Poor Anna shares a January birthday with me, so she&#8217;ll be a helper for all the birthday madness.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>Enough yapping!\u00a0 I&#8217;m snatching this list of ways to make the day magical from an April 2002 issue of the Magical Childhood newsletter.\u00a0 It is handy to have yapped at you all for so many years!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve also included a few tidbits from other newsletters of that month.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>So on with the list&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>1.\u00a0 Put on grungy clothes and go for a grubby walk.\u00a0 Plan to stomp in every mud puddle and utilize every opportunity to get messy!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3328\/4625552835_262d88bbce.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#339966;\"><strong>2.\u00a0 Go for a drive together.\u00a0 Take off and just cruise down some fantasy drive to look at the rich houses or find a scenic route in the country.\u00a0 Slow down and just talk. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 Go through the house with a grocery bag and fill it with junk you can get rid of&#8211; clothes, makeup, utensils, broken crayons, whatever.\u00a0 Then dump it out in a messy spot and help the kids take it apart, use it for crafts, cut it up, make creations or whatever else they can dream up. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>4.\u00a0 Invent a card game or board game together. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>5. Make up a personalized word search, crossword puzzle or other word games.\u00a0 You can include their pets, their friends&#8217; names, interests, funny memories, whatever you like.\u00a0 Crossword puzzles are tough but fun to make up using graph paper, especially if you&#8217;re stuck waiting for things and just keep it with you. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><strong>6.\u00a0 Check out an old favorite movie from the library (free!) and pop some popcorn. If you like, add a family twist to it&#8211; like each family member has a phrase, image or word to watch for.\u00a0 When yours come up you pick from a stack of cards made up with silly tasks (do 5 jumping jacks, cluck like a chicken, give your mom a kiss&#8230;). <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000080;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 Make a game of supper.\u00a0 Make some small finger foods like mini muffins, some baby carrots, peas colored pasta, etc. Then make cards up for those too and take turns&#8211; Eat something green, pass a carrot to the person on your left, eat as many peas as your age&#8230; If you&#8217;re out of that food, you have to &#8220;draw&#8221;&#8230;. improvise and laugh your way through supper! <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><strong>8.\u00a0 Make up May baskets to leave on doorsteps on May Day.\u00a0 Include homemade crafts, pictures, treats or flowers with a happy note.\u00a0 On Mayday (May 1), help the kids get up early and leave their treasures for favorite neighbors. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><strong>9.\u00a0 Gather up old buttons, silk flowers, big earrings, ribbons and other notions.\u00a0 Help your kids sew them onto sneakers, hats, backpacks or old jackets to personalize them.\u00a0 You can get permanent fabric glue to make it even easier. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong>10.
