{"id":1398,"date":"2011-02-02T04:24:20","date_gmt":"2011-02-02T04:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=1398"},"modified":"2011-02-02T04:24:20","modified_gmt":"2011-02-02T04:24:20","slug":"the-silent-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/02\/the-silent-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"The Silent Treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\n<p><figure style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The view from my desk through the snow yesterday\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4126\/5409694290_6f2b1ee58c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The view from my desk through the snow yesterday<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>I lost my voice today.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>I&#8217;ve been fighting a cold and getting sicker and sicker, until this morning when I woke without the ability to speak at all.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>I went through the day scribbling notes, gesturing and occasionally squeaking and whispering out a few words.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>The funny thing is, it was kind of nice at times.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m pretty sure I was a better mother for it.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>When I went to wake up Anna, I couldn&#8217;t holler from the doorway so I jostled her arm and did the &#8220;I love you&#8221; sign when she opened her eyes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>When I needed Jack to do something, I went over to him, <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>touched his shoulders to get his attention, <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>got down to his level\u00a0 and very quietly whispered what I wanted.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>When Alex and I rested in the bath together, both of us feeling pretty miserable, I just wordlessly smiled at him and kissed his cheek.\u00a0 He wordlessly smiled back.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Don&#8217;t let that magical part fool you.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>With four children, I can be a loud mother! <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>I am frequently hollering &#8220;Anna, be nice to your brother!&#8221; from the next room, &#8220;Jack, please set the table for dinner!&#8221; up the stairs and &#8220;Alex, stop throwing things off the bunk bed!&#8221; from the doorway.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>Today was a nice change from that.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>There is something to be said for having to get very close and speak very softly.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>Of course, it makes it really hard to answer the phone when that important phone call comes!<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>My voice is coming back already and it should be fine tomorrow.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>Just the same, I think I&#8217;ll give it a rest.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I lost my voice today.
