Ways to Make Today Magical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong>Happy Monday!\u00a0 I hope you and your family had a fabulous New Year&#8217;s.\u00a0 We had a messy, wonderful time.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong>I want to say a quick thank you to Jennifer and Melissa for adding to our ornament collection last week.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be making a donation in honor of Zev this week and I am so grateful to all of you who helped decorate our tree!<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s a few ways to make some magic this week&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\">1.\u00a0 Get an old, light colored tablecloth (or an old sheet) and spread it out on the table or floor.\u00a0 Take some washable markers and make a town on it, complete with streets, railroad tracks, parking lots, stores, houses, parks and zoos.\u00a0 Add some fun elements like an amusement park if you like too!\u00a0 Then get out the little people, matchbox cars, toy animals and anything else you can use and set up a little village to play with.\u00a0 When you&#8217;re finished, fold it up for next time or wash it to start over!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">2.\u00a0 Fo<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\">r a sweet eco version of the tablecloth idea, make a forest or park instead.\u00a0 Draw a winding river, mountains, paths, lakes and other natural features together.\u00a0 Then put out an assortment of natural materials like river rocks, crystals, acorns, sticks, pine cones and pine branches, and let the kids make a natural wonderland.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#666699;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#008000;\">3. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong>Play the Activity Mom&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/activitymom.blogspot.com\/2010\/01\/beware-of-crocodiles-game.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beware of Crocodiles Game<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/hpim2086.jpg?w=123\" alt=\"\" width=\"164\" height=\"400\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\">4.\u00a0 Got an old record player?\u00a0 Put a paper plate on it and turn it on, then let the kids use crayons or markers to draw on it as it goes around.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re really brave, drizzle paint.\u00a0 When each masterpiece is finished, put a sticker in the middle over the hole.\u00a0 You can also cut pizza boxes and other bits from the recycling bin for the canvases.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\">5.\u00a0 Make colorful ice sculptures.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/notjustcute.com\/2010\/12\/06\/colorful-ice-sculptures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Not Just Cute<\/a> shows you how!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"color:#000080;\"><strong>6. <\/strong><strong><big>Play the gratitude letter game to pass time driving or waiting together.\u00a0 Pick a letter and then go back and forth naming things you&#8217;re grateful for that start with that letter.\u00a0 Teens and adults can have a minimum number of syllables (like words of 3 or more syllables) to keep it challenging with younger players.\u00a0 The words can be anything at all that you&#8217;re glad to have in your life, from artichokes to Aunt Julie.<\/big><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\">7.\u00a0 Make aromatherapy sensory bottles.\u00a0 Clean out old spice bottles and insert a cotton ball with a few drops of essential oil on it.\u00a0 Snap on the lid with the holes and then screw on the top.\u00a0 Some good scents are peppermint, lavender, lemon, vanilla and even eucalyptus for when the kids have colds!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\">8.\u00a0 Make a winter wreath for the door together.\u00a0 Use an old wreath, grapevines, a wire coat hanger bent into an O, a wreath form or whatever else strikes your fancy as a base, and then gather up materials to make it together.\u00a0 It can use fabric, feathers, branches, ribbons, anything!\u00a0 Don&#8217;t stop creating till it makes you smile, then proudly hang it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">9. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong><big>Start a thank you book for each child.\u00a0 Each day write down one thing for your child that you&#8217;re thankful for.\u00a0 It can be tangible things like helping a sibling with homework or sentimental things like having such a contagious laugh.\u00a0 Keep them in their rooms so they can read them at the end of each day.<\/big><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff6600;\"><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><span style=\"color:#ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">10.
