{"id":1056,"date":"2010-08-29T09:08:03","date_gmt":"2010-08-29T09:08:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.wordpress.com\/?p=1056"},"modified":"2010-08-29T09:08:03","modified_gmt":"2010-08-29T09:08:03","slug":"lessons-learned-while-camping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/magicalchildhood.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/29\/lessons-learned-while-camping\/","title":{"rendered":"Lessons Learned While Camping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4123\/4935209108_8be65f800e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>We&#8217;re back from our camping trip, and once again so happy to have such wonderful friends to do this with every year.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s a few lessons learned this go-round&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>If you precook your potatoes before camping, you can slice them and layer them with goodies in foil pouches and they&#8217;ll be perfectly cooked, tender and divine.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>A handful of popcorn kernels in a hand-held campfire popcorn popper will make approximately 85 cups of popcorn.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>There is no such thing as an air mattress that stays inflated overnight.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Bring extra socks.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Bring extra shoes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>You can&#8217;t rush a small boy while hiking in the woods.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Good friends are worth long drives.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Never trust women who leave the dads in charge and pop into town &#8220;for just a few minutes&#8221; to get supplies.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Camp stoves are for sissies.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Roasted watermelon is really, <em>really<\/em> not a good thing.\u00a0 Like so much else in life, kids won&#8217;t believe you and it&#8217;s another one of those lessons they just have to find out for themselves, though.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4075\/4935212782_083b059739.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>Really.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>We had such a fun time we extended the fun and one of the friends came back to our house for a sleepover the next night.\u00a0 We ate junk food (how ironic that we ate fancy meals cooked over the campfire in the wilderness, and then pizza and chips at home!), watched a video and put the sleeping bags back to good use on the living room floor.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>It was a wonderful time, as always.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t even pour down rain!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#993300;\"><strong>But I love my bed.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4141\/4935209702_9bf990d102.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4120\/4934616697_ee4119bb56.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4079\/4935211084_3726fcbdae.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4095\/4935212018_8474b30205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4121\/4934615803_36f9260800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4140\/4935213274_884fd64d74.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4140\/4935213858_7f5bcab43e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re back from our camping trip, and once again so happy to have such wonderful friends to do this with every year.
