Here’s an idea we adapted from an idea in an old Girl Scout handbook.
Next time you need to keep the kids happy and occupied on a shopping trip, hand out a few paint sample cards and ask them to find matches during the trip. You can pick the samples up in the paint section of larger stores (buy some paint during one of those stops to thank them) and keep a few extras in your purse or wallet.
As you shop, the kids can hold the sample cards up to various products and try to find perfect matches. Younger kids can try to match more basic, primary colors while older kids can have trickier hues like mauve!
