Happy Monday! I hope you and your kiddos are enjoying these last days of summer.
It’s certainly hot in our neck of the woods lately! It’s hard to believe school will be starting up again soon for so many kids when it’s still near the triple-digits in temperature! It’s a great time for sprinklers and lemonade stands. 🙂
Here’s a few ways to make some memories this week…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Make some story dice. This site shows a fabulous way to make some story props for parents and kids to use to create some fun stories together.
2. Take advantage of the last days before school to let the kids dye their hair fun colors with temporary hair dye. Some dyes are not as temporary as they claim so you might want to test it first!
3. Make a seashell memory game. Gather (or buy) some sea shells and write letters, numbers or symbols on the undersides with a marker. Turn them all right side up and take turns trying to find matches. When you’re done, display them in a pretty baske!
4. Get together with friends and take wacky photos around town.
5. Tape bundles of crayons together to make rainbow writers.
6. Make fizzy cupcakes. Bake and frost cupcakes and then sprinkle them with Pop Rocks. We usually avoid junky stuff like that but every once in a while it’s pretty fun to have really crazy treats. 🙂
7. Download the Chronicles of Narnia audiobooks absolutely free to listen to together.
8. Go dance with the fireflies outside after dark. No fireflies where you live? Put glow bracelets on the kids and have them be the fireflies and have them dance and run in the back yard.
9. Start playing different types of music one night a week at supper. Try jazz, folk, Native American flute, blues, you name it. Your local library will have tons of choices or you can just dial it up via the internet.
10. Waste a box of birthday candles on repeated wishes. You join in too!
And with that, chickadees, I’m off to watch “The Closer” on tape with my sweetie and get a shoulder rub.
Have a magical week!
Thank you for another great list of things for us to try! We’ll have to shake the dust off those clam shell halves my kids have collected over the years and get to work. :o) I noticed our Walmart has multi-packs of pop rocks for really cheap over by their party stuff. It just occurred to me how fun those might be in a bowl of rice crispies! ha! And the hair dye thing reminded me…my kids used to use markers to put rainbow stripes in their hair. So fun!
Also? I think I’m particularly fond of #4. ;o)
Love that phone booth photo!!! Reminds me of long long ago when I was a teen and we did photo scavenger hunts— remember those?! Number two—-I’m afraid to try that one. Did you do your hair too?! 🙂 Your daughter’s color is oh-so-pretty.
I was afraid to try #2 too but Anna bought a temporary dye a few months ago and I told the girls that they could use it after the pageant was over (Little House characters did not have purple hair, after all!).
I don’t do mine with any of that stuff but I do henna my hair. I’m naturally blond but I’ve been a henna redhead for a few years now and it just feels right. 🙂
